Community Projects

The best way to implement "service above self" is to lend support to the needs of your community, and to foster new friendships along the way......
Christmas for Community Children

Each December, Rotarians partner with Christmas for Community Children, a not-for-profit organization that identifies families in need and provides Christmas gifts for their children.

The White Salmon-Bingen Rotary Club purchases, wraps, and delivers gifts to an average of seven families each year. These gifts include coats, pants, shirts, socks, gloves, and at least one toy, book, or game for each child.

Scholarships for High School Seniors

Rotary awards scholarships to qualified high school seniors who are planning to pursue a college education.

Recipients must meet certain criteria, including community service hours during their high school career and having an acceptance letter to a college or university.

Community Youth Center

Rotary is an active partner is supporting the Community Youth Center, which operates an after-school facility for latch-key students.

Computers, games, and books are but some of the items that have been donated on behalf of the club to help keep a safe, educational, and fun place open for the children in the White Salmon Valley School District.

Skyline Hospital

Rotary has partnered with the local community hospital to support its services and programs.

In 2014, the Club made a donation earmarked for the purchase of audio-visual equipment to enhance the services provided by the hospital.

Community Pride

Every April, our Rotary Club provides a community-wide clean-up/recycle weekend at the Bingen Recycling Area.  This year it will be held on April 27 & 28th from 9am-5pm.

Members support this effort in a variety of ways: scheduling and picking up old appliances and yard waste for those unable to do so on their own, off-loading items at the recycling center, greeting and directing people to the proper recycling stations, and scheduling donation-worthy items to 2nd Hand Rose or Goodwill.

Dictionaries for 3rd Graders

Each year, your local Rotary Club partners with Whitson Elementary School in White Salmon to provide each 3rd grade student with a dictionary.

Students are taught how to use the dictionary with fun activities that expose them to using guide words, parts of speech, synonyms, and more.
